About Hideko

Hideko Moore is an Okinawan author and storyteller whose life has crossed cultures, countries, and generations. Born to Okinawan parents who had made a life in the Philippines, Hideko's earliest years unfolded against the extraordinary circumstances of World War II.

Her childhood memories carry the realities of uncertainty, hunger, displacement, and fear — but they also preserve something equally important: the warmth of family, unexpected moments of kindness, small joys, and the determination to keep moving forward.

Her journey would eventually take her from the Philippines to postwar Okinawa and, later, to America, where she built a new chapter of her life. Yet the memories of childhood remained. For decades, many of those stories lived quietly within her. Until memory decided to speak.
